Al-Qaeda-linked group claims responsibility for Al-Arabiya TV bombing

An Al-Qaeda-linked group is claiming responsibility for a bombing earlier this week targeting the Baghdad offices of the pan-Arab television station Al-Arabiya.

A statement posted Thursday on the website of the Islamic state of Iraq said the operation was carried out by a “hero of Islam.”

The statement described the Dubai-based channel as “corrupt.”

The Arabic-language channel is one of the most popular in the Middle East but is perceived by insurgents as being pro-Western.

At least six people were killed in Monday’s bombing at the channel’s headquarters. – AP
